Therapy vs. Coaching
Joseph offers both therapy and coaching. Here's how they differ and how to find the right fit.
People sometimes aren't sure whether they need a therapist, a coach, or both. Joseph is trained in both, and he offers each as a distinct service. During your initial consultation, you can talk through what you're looking for and figure out together which fits best.
You don't need to decide before reaching out. The initial conversation is a good place to explore what you need. Joseph can help you figure out which approach makes sense for where you are right now.
Therapy
Therapy is deeper, ongoing work. It can address mental health concerns, past experiences, relational patterns, and the emotional layers underneath what's happening in your life. A therapist is trained to work with clinical concerns and can hold space for things that feel heavy, unresolved, or hard to name.
Therapy might be the fit if you're dealing with things like anxiety or depression that have been with you for a while, if you're working through grief or trauma, if your relationships keep running into the same patterns, or if you feel stuck in ways you can't quite explain. It's also the right choice if you think something clinical might be going on; Joseph is licensed to assess and treat mental health conditions.
Therapy with Joseph is available for clients in Wisconsin, USA and internationally (where not restricted by local licensing requirements).
Coaching
Coaching is more goal-oriented and forward-looking. It's practical, structured, and focused on where you want to go. It works well for people who want support around specific transitions, personal growth, career decisions, or figuring out what's next.
Coaching might be the fit if you're going through a life transition (moving abroad, changing careers, becoming a parent), if you want accountability and structure around personal goals, or if you're looking for a thinking partner to help you make decisions. Coaching doesn't address diagnosed mental health conditions, but it can be a powerful complement to therapy.
Coaching is available internationally for everyone; no licensing restrictions apply.
Can I have both?
Some people do choose to have both a therapist and a coach. For your work with Joseph, though, you'll need to pick one role for him to be in with respect to you and your life. This boundary exists because the two roles require different frameworks, and keeping them separate protects the integrity of both.
If you're already in therapy elsewhere and want Joseph as a coach (or vice versa), that's completely fine. The initial conversation is a good place to talk about what combination would work for you.
Both are online
Whether you choose therapy or coaching, all sessions are conducted online via secure video. This makes it accessible wherever you are.
